YU Mobile Network Launches in Kenya

Its finally happened. YU, Kenya’s latest mobile network operator has launched today. Everyone has been wondering what tariff package YU would offer since Safaricom, Zain and Orange had already made deep cuts in their tariffs over the last few months.

According to this morning’s press coverage, YU has launched with a rate of Kes. 7.50 per minute to all other mobile networks – this is impressive considering that they are just getting off the ground and need to tap into existing mobile network’s users. At the same time, YU is offering an added incentive of paying all customers Kes. 0.75 per minute for receiving calls from the other Kenyan mobile networks. The accumulated bonus airtime will be credited the following month for usage by YU subscribers.

SMS within the YU network will be Kes. 2.00 per text sent however I have yet to find rates for inter-network SMS. At this time, the YU web site has very limited information on services and the company but this bound to change in the next couple of weeks as they probably launch additional services like data and internet. It looks like the coming year is going to be very interesting in the mobile telecommunications sector as all four mobile networks in Kenya go head to head to win customers!

This can be a very good service provider but your marketting stategies are not that competitive! Being concerned please do something on this issue and eventually you will win some subscribers.
Also YU line prices are not that comparable to other line … they are expensive………. Kshs 100…
    Lastly, extend your coverage.

    Dear YU,
I wish to inform you that when you were launching YU, I request for a specific number (0750639407)and was granted by one Mr. David Nthumbi. Soon after, I went for a long working mission outside Kenya and on return afew months ago, I could not trace my sim card. My efforts to replace my card have been fruitless. Please note that I need this number.

Could you please honour this request as soon as possible! If you do, I promise to request for the following numbers to replace and replace all call numbers from another service provider for my family of five with YU lines. Having erected a YU mast near at Wamunnyu (Mbaikini), I can easily convince quite a number of friends to switch to YU lines. Finally, I am intersted in operating a YU cash. You can call os sms me on 0720/0734-639407 or office direct line 7625169. Please respond.
