Opera News Mobile App Hits 1.1 Million Downloads In Kenya In Q1 2018

Opera News has reached a new milestone of 1.1 million downloads in the Kenya during the first quarter of the year, becoming the leading news mobile app in Kenya in the process which is no mean feat! The app itself has also achieved over 5 million downloads in Africa in the same period which is impressive!

Opera, the the company behind the mobile app is celebrating this milestone with a free data reward campaign in partnership with Safaricom to show love and appreciation to all Opera News users in Kenya. For a limited time, Opera News users in Kenya will be rewarded with free data bundle packages from Safaricom by simply inviting friends and family to download the news mobile app.

This campaign is clearly designed to leverage network effects to grow the usage and uptake on the mobile app for Opera. At the same, Safaricom gets to have more data consumption on its network via the mobile app. The more you share, the more you earn!

The reward starts at 15 MB for downloading Opera News and increases to 35 MB each time a user invites a friend to install the news app. This means the more friends you get to download Opera News, the more free data you will earn. This data will be added to the current data package of each user, so they can spend it on their favourite apps or browsing the web.

Users can also send invitations to friends and family by using the unique link generated in the app. This link can be sent over via SMS or social media platforms such as WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, among others.
