Safaricom’s 2GB Data Bundle Free 3G Modem offer.

Safaricom is really taking this whole 3G thing very seriously. They currently have an offer that runs until the 7th September 2009 where you buy a 2GB data bundle for Kes. 3,999.00 and get a free 3G modem in the process. The other cool thing is that the 2GB data bundle is active for 90 days after activation which is longer than the usual one month validity period. This offer must be a loss leader for Safaricom but they are gunning for the overall customer lifetime value. The writing is on the wall, Safaricom want your data! More details on the Safaricom 2GB data bundle below:

  • To activate the 2GB, send a blank sms from the modem line to 444.
  • Bundle validity period is 90 days.
  • Customers can choose any of our data bundles on exhausting the 2 GB bundle
  • Offer ONLY available from Safaricom Retail Shops and Safaricom Business Sales.
  • This offer is NOT available through Safaricom Dealers.
  • Offer valid until 7th September 2009.
  • 2GB bundle costs Ksh 3,999.
  • The offer is on pre-paid basis (no contracts/no monthly installments)

    Great offer, indeed!

I think it’s also similar to the Vodafone WebSessions offer in DE (& UK?) where they are currently marketing this USB stick with a prepaid solution / on-demand 15 minutes, 60 minutes, 12h rate @ 24,95 EUR.

Best thing is that the stick is unlocked, so it would be interesting to know if it is also unlocked in EAK. But then…when has a locked device ever been a shida in EAK, ama?

Ha! This means 1GB for 2,000KES including the modem and thus cheaper than the standard 2,500KES for 1GB. Will add another modem to the growing pile 🙂

This 2GB offer just came too me at the right time. I now can do all my work from home programmes without the hassles and tussle. And my website ( just got the boost that it needed at the right time.

It recently got even more interesting. They currently have an unlimited banwidth for 200 KSHs per day offer, running from 23rd oct to 5th nov. So i can google in peace.

That offer is bullshit. Its taking 5 minutes to open google. The maximum speed i can download is 2kb/s. I think because many people are using at the same time. Why cant they drop the offer as soon as possible. Is anyone experiencing the same?

You are not alone. Safaricom has taken in more than it can chew and is currently passing 1G services for 3g services. It is almost displacing telkom as the worst data services provider.I have had to switch from safaricom to celtel on account of unreliable connection.

What i have discovered with the internet providers in Kenya is that when their clients increases, its high time you say goodbye!
