Kenya’s July 2017 Mobile & Fixed Broadband Speeds In The Speedtest Global Index

Last week the Speedtest Global Index, a monthly ranking of global mobile and fixed broadband speeds was launched. This is part of Ookla’s mission is to make the internet faster by providing data and insights on real-world internet speeds. As part of that mission, Ookla is making Speedtest data available, for free, in an interactive format.

The Speedtest Global index is based on billions of consumer-initiated tests taken all over the world using Speedtest, displaying the latest information on which countries have the fastest mobile and fixed broadband and which have the slowest. Naturally, I could not resist the opportunity to to see how Kenya is faring in this respect as below:

Kenya’s Fixed Broadband Ranking for July 2017

In terms of fixed broadband, Kenya ranked 85 globally. To achieve the latest ranking, Kenya had average download speeds of 14.30 Mbps and upload speeds of 8.46 Mbps.

Kenya’s Mobile Broadband Ranking for July 2017

In terms of mobile broadband, Kenya had a better ranking of 80 in July 2017 globally. This ranking was achieved with average download speeds of 14.49 Mbps and upload speeds of 6.49 Mbps.
